MONTGOMERY, AL (WAFF) -

A former employee of a DeKalb County nursing home was convicted Tuesday of the theft of more than $5,000 from the facility's resident trust fund.

Kimberly Yvette Nance of Rainsville pleaded guilty before the DeKalb County Circuit Judge to one count of first-degree theft of property.

Nance admitted to stealing m$5,634.77 from the Crowne Healthcare resident trust fund by falsifying deposit tickets and converting the money for her own use. The thefts occurred between 2010 and August 2012.

Nance was sentenced to two years in prison, suspended, and placed on two years supervised probation. She was ordered to pay back the money taken from the trust fund, and will be prohibited from working in any facility that receives federal healthcare funds.

The investigation began after facility management discovered discrepancies in the trust fund and referred their findings to the Attorney General's office.
