Caregiver steals $9K from Lawrence Co. woman

LAWRENCE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) - A caregiver was arrested after a Lawrence County woman reported having thousands of dollars stolen from her home.

Authorities arrested Christy Atchley Robertson, of Trinity, on Friday after an undercover investigation.

The victim reported $7,500 missing and told investigators she believed the money was taken by one of her caregivers. Investigators set up a sting operation to catch the thief.

After installing surveillance equipment, investigators said Robertson was caught taking $1,500 from the victim's home.

Robertson was taken into custody on Friday and questioned about the crimes. According to the sheriff's department, she confessed to committing the thefts.

Robertson is being held in the Lawrence County Jail on $7,500 bond. She was charged with two counts of theft of property.

    A ground search ensued that lasted about four hours and covered approximately six miles, ending a few hundred yards east of Hays Mill Road where the suspects were caught in a hunting stand/shoot house.
