American Airlines flight diverted to Nashville

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

An American Airlines plane flying from Dallas to Boston was diverted to Nashville on Saturday night after a passenger became disruptive and non-compliant.

Flight 2214 landed in Nashville just after 9 p.m. with 145 passengers and five crew members on board.

According to American Airlines spokesman Kent Powell, local authorities removed an unruly woman, 55-year-old Mary Lentz of New Mexico from the aircraft.

According to the affidavit, witnesses said Lentz was being disruptive and trying to run towards the cockpit, while engaging in violent and threatening behavior.

Lentz was eventually restrained in a chair, but not before assaulting a flight attendant, punching him in the stomach.

The affidavit goes on to say that when the flight landed at Nashville International Airport, three Metro officers escorted Lentz off the plane. The officers say Lentz also assaulted them, by kicking them.

Powell says the aircraft, a Boeing 737, arrived in Boston just after 3 a.m. Sunday.
