Chamber of Commerce planning Armed Forces Celebration Week

HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - The Chamber of Commerce of Huntsville/Madison County, Team Redstone, the Redstone Chapter of AUSA and other partners are planning Armed Forces Celebration Week August 2-9. 

The celebration will involve several events that will allow the public to honor our military.

On Monday at 9 a.m., The Armed Forces Week Proclamation will be signed by government and military dignitaries. This event will be held at the downtown Huntsville/Madison County Veterans Memorial on Monroe Street near Washington Street. If it rains, the event will be at The Chamber auditorium at 225 Church Street. 

At 6:30 p.m. on Monday, The Army Materiel Command Band Concert will be held in Big Spring Park. Weather-permitting, there will be a fireworks display at 9 p.m., sponsored by Remington. The event is free of charge. It will be hosted by The Arts Council and the City of Huntsville. If it rains, the event will be held in the South Hall of the Von Braun Center.

On Tuesday at 7 p.m., The Soldier Show will be held in the Von Braun Center Concert Hall. All tickets have been distributed, but there is a possibility of empty seats the day of the event.

On Wednesday at 12 p.m., the annual Armed Forces Celebration Salute Luncheon will be held in the Von Braun Center North Hall. Attendees can enjoy a Solider Show teaser prior to that night's performance. You can click here to register. At 7 p.m., The Soldier Show will be held in the Von Braun Concert Hall. Tickets have been distributed, but there may be empty seats the day of the event. 

On Thursday at 10 a.m., a special awards program will be held in honor of Purple Heart Day at the downtown Huntsville/Madison County Veterans Memorial. The community is invited to the event.

On Friday at a.m., The "Iron Mike Golf Tournament" is being sponsored by AUSA Redstone at The Links Course on Redstone. You can click here to register. 

At 5 p.m. on Friday, the Armed Forces Celebration Week Softball Games will be held at the Huntsville Metro Kiwanis Sportsplex Field 2 at 3590 Patton Road. Game 1 at 5 p.m. will match Team Redstone Leadership against AUSA Leadership. Game 2 at 7 p.m. will be Huntsville/Madison County Leadership vs. Senior All Stars. There is no charge to attend.

At 10 a.m. on Saturday, there will be an F16 Red Tail dedication at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center honoring the legacy squadron of the Tuskegee Airmen. 

All week during Armed Forces Week, free or discounted admissions to attractions for active or retired military I.D. card holders and military families are offered by the Huntsville Museum of Art, Space and Rocket Center, Burritt on the Mountain, EarlyWorks, Sci-Quest and Huntsville Botanical Garden.
