HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

On Friday, a mother pleaded guilty to manslaughter in connection with the crash that killed her 1-year-old son.

Prosecutors said her blood alcohol content was more than three times the legal limit at the time of that crash.

Devin Fountain was surrounded by family and was very emotional as she entered her guilty plea at the Madison County courthouse.

A judge sentenced her to the maximum amount of time, 20 years in prison, but suspended 15 years of that sentence.

Fountain will spend five years on community corrections. That is a very strict form of house arrest, where she will have to wear an ankle monitor, and won't be able to leave the house except for pre-approved things, like work and doctors appointments.

If she steps out of line, she'll be sent to prison.

Last August, Fountain lost control and wrecked her car at the intersection of Old Railroad Bed Road and Dan Crutcher Road.

She had her two children, ages 3 and 1 inside. Her youngest child was killed.

Prosecutors said her blood alcohol content was 0.27 nearly three hours after the wreck.

The prosecution told me they were so willing to enter into a plea deal because Fountain took responsibility for her actions and is getting help.

Her defense attorney said since the crash, she has voluntarily been to both in and out-patient rehab, submits to drug and alcohol tests, and goes to three AA meetings a week.
