Huntsville police arrested a Huntsville man on child abuse charges on Wednesday.

Arthur Bernell Wesley III, 33, was charged with one count of torture/willful abuse of a child non-family.

Police said the arrest is the result of an incident that happened in May involving a 10-year-old boy. Investigators did not specify what that incident involved.

Wesley turned himself in to the Madison County Metro Jail and was released on $2,500 bond.

According to the Alabama Department of Education, Wesley was employed at McDonnell Elementary School in Huntsville with a valid teaching certificate as of last school year.

A Huntsville City Schools spokesperson confirmed Wesley was a physical education teacher at the school. It was confirmed Wesley's status is currently "pending disciplinary action."

According to Huntsville police, the incident for which Wesley is charged happened at a school and did not involve any kind of sexual abuse.
