MADISON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

The new staggered start times for Madison County schools will begin when classes start next week.

Will the schools be ready? There's a lot that has to be done to make sure students and parents have as smooth a transition as possible.

Under the new schedule, elementary schools and smaller middle schools will run from 7:45 to 2:30. High schools and larger middle schools will be in session from 8:30 to 3:30. Click here for the full list (PDF).

The change was made to make buses less crowded and also to decrease the time students spend riding buses to and from school. Parents will be able to drop kids off 30 minutes before school starts. The Madison board of education is making sure everyone involved with the schools is ready for next week.

"Schools have notified parents of the new pick up times for the students, our bus drivers have been notified and they have looked at the routes and have talked to the schools and they're making dry runs," said school system spokesperson Geraldine Tibbs.
