Woman found badly beaten on Silver Comet Trail

DALLAS, GA (CBS46) -

As of Wednesday evening, Paulding County Sheriff's deputies had made no arrests and did not have a motive in the brutal beating of a woman on the Silver Comet Trail.

The attack happened Tuesday on a bridge over Academy Drive near the Chamber of Commerce Trail Head.

"I'm not going to forget that image for a long time," said Peter Skott, who found the woman and called 911.

The woman, Tina Waddell, 42, was drifting in and out of consciousness when Skott rode up on her on his bike around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. "It was difficult to see her face, if you want to call it that," he said.

Investigators believe Waddell had been walking on the trail when a man attacked her and pulled her into the nearby woods. She managed to crawl up the embankment and back onto the trail where she flagged down Skott.

She could only indicate a white man with dark hair had attacked her.

Investigators do not believe she knew her attacker and did not immediately have a motive. "We don't know if it was robbery, if it was an intended rape," said Corporal Ashley Henson with the Paulding County Sheriff's Office.

The attack happened in broad daylight near a business as well as a mobile home park. Henson said the path is routinely patrolled by three deputies and is popular with bikers and walkers.

"I'll definitely carry pepper spray and just be more cautious," said Emmalee Bidwell, who was riding her bike on the trail Wednesday.

Skott said he was glad to help and hoped this served as a warning to all. "All I want is her to get back on her feet again and everybody else watch out wherever you are."

The Paulding County Sheriff's Office asks if anyone saw anything suspicious on the trail between the Chamber and Tara Drummond Trail Heads on July 29 between 5-8 p.m. to contact the Criminal Investigations Division at (770) 443-3015.
