DECATUR, AL (WAFF) -  The Decatur Police Department was dispatched to a stolen vehicle call at the Chevron gas station on Sixth Avenue on Tuesday at about 7 p.m.

When Officer Todd Walker arrived, he met with Victoria Vaughan and John Leffers, who had Shane Lee Lepre detained for the police.

Vaughan said she stopped at the gas station and when she went inside, she noticed someone was driving away in her 2012 GMC Terrain. Vaughan ran after her vehicle and was able to get the suspect to stop and get out of the vehicle.

Leffers, who happened to be pulling into the gas station, saw what was going on and assisted Vaughan until police arrived.

Detective Matt Young of the Decatur Police Departments Criminal Investigation Division was called to the scene and Lepre was taken to the Decatur Police Department.

Subsequent to the investigation, Lepre was charged with public intoxication and first degree theft of property, which is a class B felony. Lepre will be transferred to the Morgan County Jail on a $5,500.00 bond.
