LAUDERDALE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) - An animal neglect case in the Shoals led Animal Control units to seize more than a dozen horses. It happened at a home on Lauderdale County Road 81 near the Central community.
A total of 13 horses, a donkey and a mule were removed from the property on Friday afternoon. Officials said an additional horse was in such bad shape it had to be put down. Animal Control Units have serious concerns about the rehabilitation of several others.
Some of the horses were so malnourished you could see their ribs. Their pasture doubled as a junk yard, and their water source so full of algae it was a light green color. In addition to the poor conditions of the living animals, officials found more than a dozen skulls and bones from animals that had died and were either moved or left in the wooded area of the property.
Charges are pending in this case at this time no arrests have been made.
