When an Ozark man came home and found his family members gone and their car missing, he sensed something wasn't right. Little did he know they were being held hostage.

Police say David Pitts, 44, of Ozark, was behind the horrors that unfolded, abducting a 30-year-old woman and 8-year-old girl from the home on County Road 58 at knife point late Thursday night.

Ozark Police Chief Tony Spivey says Pitts lives in the victims' neighborhood. The chief declined to elaborate on the relationship of the woman and child, due to the sensitive nature of the case, telling WSFA 12 News only that they live in the same home.

"Police officers were notified last night of a missing person concern involving the 30-year-old female and the 8-year-old female. As time went on, we searched for them, a BOLO (Be on the look out) was issued," Spivey said.

According to police, Pitts took the victims to a secluded area off of Alabama 123 about 10 miles away. There, Spivey says Pitts raped the woman and molested the child, the whole time armed with a knife and gun.

Ozark police believe Pitts held the victims all night. Then Friday morning, he let them go, forcing them to drive him to an undisclosed location and drop him off.

The victims went to a local fire station for help and to report what happened. As police started investigating the incident, Pitts was identified as the suspect.

The victims are being treated at a local hospital as the search for Pitts continues.

He is described as a 5 foot 9 inches, 175 pound male with blue eyes and brown hair.

The 1999 Toyota Sienna minivan Pitts was last seen driving was found Saturday morning in Coco Beach, Florida. It was impounded by law enforcement.

The man should be considered armed and dangerous.

Warrants have been issued for Pitts' arrest on charges of two counts kidnapping first degree, rape first degree, sexual abuse first degree, theft of property first degree and burglary first degree.

"It's shocking to hear something close like that. It's just sad," said Willie Baker, a neighbor.

"All I can tell you is that he is a weird guy, especially when he drives by here like he is noticing everything and checking everything out so I just watch him. And I'll be on the lookout now," said Thomas Jones, who lives down the street, of Pitts.

Ozark PD is following up on several leads in their hunt for Pitts, both locally and out of state.

'We would ask that if anyone has any information about the whereabouts of this suspect that they would contact their local law enforcement agency. It's a very, very horrific crime and it's very important that as quickly as possible that we remove this individual from the street," Chief Spivey said.

Spivey told 12 News that David Pitts has no criminal history and his motive in the case is unknown.

Anyone with information on the case or his whereabouts is asked to immediately call the nearest law enforcement agency.
