HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Sentencing is scheduled for Friday in the case of a Huntsville teacher convicted of sexually abusing a student.

Some are asking for the court to show mercy towards Brett Naff - while others call to have the book thrown at him.

Naff, a former teacher at Country Day School, was convicted of two counts of sodomy last month. Prosecutors said he had sexual contact with a student at the school.

The victim testified during trial that Naff forced her to perform sexual acts beginning when she was 11. The victim is now in her 20s.

Letters filed in court ahead of the sentencing phase show support for both sides. On the victim's behalf, supporters wrote in, saying how she "will not stay alone" and how she is still dealing with the abuse.

A part of the letter reads, "Our true feelings -- we hope he burns in hell. We were duped by him, as were a lot of people."

Dozens of letters have also been filed in support of Naff. They come from former students, athletes, relatives, friends, neighbors and professional colleagues. They say Naff was a good teacher, mentor, and influence.

Naff could receive a minimum of 20 years in prison.
