HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

The Madison County School System is getting ready for the 2014-2015 school year with its annual board conference in Huntsville.

Consultants went over the school district's strategic plan, taking a close look at budgeting and moving forward as the county continues to grow.

Top on the agenda - the transition from Superintendent David Copeland to Matt Massey, who was elected last week. He said one of his top priorities is getting more input from the community.

"When people say what we need and what we're asking for, we're going to be asking for help," said the Superintendent-elect. "We're going to be asking for partners and to create those partners, you've gotta be open and transparent and go, 'This is why we need your help, we need your input and this is what we have to have in two, three, or 10 years.'"

The first day of school in Madison County is August 5.
