MONTGOMERY – The North All-Stars downed the South 82-64 Wednesday night at Alabama State University’s Oliver-Dunn Acadome and improved its current win streak in the All-Star Sports Week North-South Series over its southern rivals to 12. The last South win came in 2002 when the south won 85-76. The South led 39-35 at the half but was outscored 47-25 in the final two quarters. The North scooted out to a 14-2 lead in the third period as North MVP, 6-foot-7 forward Gerron Scissum of Lee-Huntsville, took over inside. He led the North with 14 points and seven rebounds. Tavaras Tolliver of Scottsboro added 13 points with a 6-of-9 performance at the foul line. Dalton Barkley of Bob Jones chipped in 12 points and Ethan Stair of Hazel Green had 11. Trey Potts had eight points and tied with Scissum for a team high seven rebounds. Stair also had three assists. South MVP Brandon Austin of Carver-Montgomery had a game-high 15 points and cleared five rebounds. He was 7-of-8 at the foul line. Pernell Vickerstaff of Opelika was 8-of-8 on free throws and finished with 10 points. The All-Star Week competition ends Thursday with the North-South Volleyball All-Star match at Tine Davis Gymnasium at Faulkner University at 4 p.m., and with the 55th North-South All-Star Football game played at Cramton Bowl at 7 p.m.
