Message from co-op:  At approximately 7:00 this evening, severe thunderstorms with high winds and lightening passed through our area resulting in downed trees causing a disruption of service to approximately 9500 consumers. The outages are widespread from the Pittsburg area down to Longview and across to Hallsville. Our crews as well as several contract crews have been dispatched to repair the damage. We will follow up with additional information as it becomes available.

WOOD COUNTY ELECTRIC COOPERATIVE:

Message from co-op:

System-wide we are experiencing power outages affecting over 9,000 meters due to high winds and lightning throughout our region. These outages are spread throughout our 9-county service territory. Hardest hit areas include Franklin and Wood Counties, with specific large-scale outages near Alba, Golden, Hawkins, Hoard, and Grand Saline regions. Our line crews are assessing the damage and working diligently in challenging conditions to remove trees and limbs and replace broken poles to restore power as quickly as possible.

There are many broken poles and downed lines. Power lines and/or poles could obstruct roadways, so extreme caution is advised for all citizens. We ask citizens to be patient as we work to safely restore power and to please be mindful that any downed lines could be energized. All should stay away from such lines and call the cooperative to report them.

With the level of damage we are experiencing we do expect outages to last throughout the evening. We will update as we know more.

Those affected should:

Report outages by calling the high volume outage hotline at 1-866-415-2951 or by calling the cooperative at 903-763-2203.

Use extreme caution with any usage of generators and only outdoors. Never connect a generator directly to a home as it can present electrocution risk to utility workers and neighbors served by the same transformer.

Be patient.

Those with mobile communications devices can check the real-time progress of outages and restoration by going to www.wcec.or and clicking the Current Outages link on the bottom left of the screen.
