COLLINSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Two men were arrested on animal cruelty charges stemming from the discovery of dozens of neglected dogs in Collinsville.

Brothers William Allen Stewart, 68, and 51-year-old Major Lavaughn Ford, are each charged with 19 counts of cruelty to animals. The charges are misdemeanors.

Collinsville police found 27 dogs in extremely poor living conditions at a Gregory Avenue home. While some dogs appeared healthy, the majority were in various stages of poor health. Three dog skeletons were on the premises, and two others were dead and decaying.

No court date has been set for the two men, but the case is expected to go before the Collinsville Municipal Court sometime next month.
