Urgent need for fosters for Huntsville Animal Services dogs

HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - Huntsville Animal Services needs dog foster families so they can sanitize the shelter after a respiratory disease spread through the building.

Many dogs will have to be euthanized if they aren't adopted or taken to a temporary home. HAS officials said they will not euthanize healthy dogs, however, the healthy dogs are at risk of contracting the virus. Any sick dog will be put down.

The dogs will have to be removed from the building while it is sanitized.

At least 30 dogs were adopted or fostered Tuesday, far more than the daily average of 2-3. If you can't adopt or foster a dog, A New Leash on Life is taking donations for boarding.

"Don't let it be today and the story dies tomorrow," said Animal Care Supervisor Karen Buchan. "We need it to keep moving. We need help now, tomorrow, next week and next month."

Huntsville Animal Services is located at 4950 Triana Blvd. SW. Their phone number is 256-883-3782.
