COLBERT COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

A Colbert County man faces bonds totaling $40,000 after deputies said he stole a truck and a list of other property.

The truck was reported stolen in Tuscumbia July 10. Six days later, a witness told investigators he saw a person parked in a matching vehicle on Fossick Lane in Cherokee. The witness said the man in the truck, Christopher Franklin Kilpatrick, was parked next to his girlfriend in another vehicle.

Investigators made contact with Kilpatrick, who they say admitted to taking the truck after being read his rights. He told investigators he returned to the stolen truck in his girlfriend's vehicle to take property out and bring it home. Following this statement, investigators said Kilpatrick consented to a search.

Officials found numerous items that had been reported stolen from the truck and eight additional vehicles. The total of the stolen property was more than $10,000.

Kilpatrick is charged with theft of a motor vehicle, burglary, five counts of breaking-and-entering a motor vehicle and four counts of second-degree theft. He remains in the Colbert County Jail.
