MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

A large group of officers from Maxwell Air Force Base helped a few local schools get ready to reopen on Saturday.

With just 23 days of summer remaining for students in Montgomery Public Schools, volunteers came out to help prepare a few schools for the first day back.

The officers helped fix the campus of the Brewbaker complex, which houses four different schools, along with some other volunteers.

"We have several other people out here," said Cameron Whitlow, principal of Brewbaker Middle School. "We have some teachers and some students, and our superintendent also came out and visited with us. We're here to really support what they're doing. I mean, it's their drive to come out and help and provide service and so we want to show them that we definitely appreciate it by being here and supporting them as well."

So how exactly did they get students to come to school in the middle of July?

"It took a little bit of motivation," Whitlow said. "They like to eat so if you provide something to eat to every now and again they'll be willing to come out and help out. So they were here for that."

Even thought the rain cut their service shot, the officers still managed to get a lot done in a few short hours.

More than 700 Volunteers are expected to help prepare Montgomery schools before they reopen on August 11.
