TUSCALOOSA, AL (WBRC) -

Investigators say a murder suspect has turned himself in to police.

Skyler Pierre Hinton, 21, will be booked into the Tuscaloosa County Jail for murder and for shooting into an unoccupied vehicle early Sunday morning.

Tuscaloosa Metro Homicide Unit Sgt. Dale Phillips says officers were called out to a shooting at the Motel 6 on McFarland Blvd. around 1:40 a.m. Sunday, July 20.

Officers found a car in the shrubs of the hotel's parking lot. The victim, 21-year-old Jamarcus Marquez Roberts, was inside suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.

Roberts was transported to DCH hospital where he died from his injuries.

Officers investigated the scene at the hotel's parking lot and spoke with several witnesses. They identified Hinton as the suspect in the shooting.

Police say Hinton and Roberts may have been acquaintances. The shooting is believed to have stemmed from an earlier conflict in a separate downtown Tuscaloosa location.

"At this time we are attempting to locate Mr. Hinton. Mr. Hinton is aware that he is wanted. We urge anyone with information as to his whereabouts, or if there is anyone with information concerning this incident, we urge them to contact the homicide unit or the Tuscaloosa Police Department," Sgt. Phillips added.

Sgt. Phillips says Hinton has been in trouble with the law before but could not give specifics on his record.
