WAFF-48 celebrates Alabama APME broadcast awards

BIRMINGHAM , AL (WAFF) -

The WAFF 48 News team was recognized Saturday at the Alabama Associated Press Media Editors Broadcast Awards in Birmingham.

WAFF 48 won for Best Regularly Scheduled Newscast for WAFF 48 News at Five, as well as an honorable mention for Most Outstanding News Operation.

Mark Thornhill won for Best News Anchor. Carl Prather also won for Best Sports Story, for his Iron Bowl report, “One Second,” which you can view at the top of the story, or by clicking here if you're on a mobile device.

    The incident occurred at approximately 5:30 p.m., when police from multiple law enforcement agencies responded to a 911 call reporting two people had been shot on Edmonds Road.
