HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

The Huntsville City School leaders are wrapping up another successful summer feeding program.

In fact, it's been so successful school leaders are extending it in five schools for another week. The summer feeding program started June 2. Meals were served at eight different sites. Only two sites served dinner, including Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary school. Child Nutrition Director, Joseph Vaughn, said the program is a success because of the community's support.

"We've exceeded what we did last year in June, and we're right on target to do what we've done for the entire summer,” said Vaughn. “Last year we did 98,000, we did 71,00 in June. We did 74,000 this year in June."

The program will be extended another week at Dawson, Lakewood, Chapman, Williams Elementary Schools, and Johnson High.
