MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. (AP) - A northwest Alabama woman is facing charges of stealing more than $129,000 while she was working as a church's financial secretary.
Investigators say 63-year-old Deborah Mansell was arrested on multiple charges of theft and fraudulent use of a credit card.
The TimesDaily (http://bit.ly/1wDSOXX ) reports Mansell was the financial secretary at Highland Park Baptist Church in Muscle Shoals.
Police say Mansell made more than 2,200 transactions from July 2011 until an audit found discrepancies in April. Mansell allegedly tried to hide the transactions by moving money in the church's budget.
Highland Park lead pastor Brett Pitman says the church is "wounded and hurt." He calls her a lifelong attender and a longtime employee of the church.
Defense lawyer Tim Case says he's looking forward to Mansell's day in court.
