HOMEWOOD, AL (WBRC) -

Homewood Animal Control has posted a warning to their Facebook page that someone is dumping dogs in the area.

Citizens who spotted the stray dogs turned them in to Vulcan Park Animal Care on Valley Avenue.

Staff members tell me if an owner doesn't come forward the dogs will be put up for adoption.

In the Facebook post Homewood Animal Control says people have seen what they describe as a white work van, with no windows and 2 ladders on it driving through neighborhoods.

It is believed that the driver of that white van has been dumping the dogs.

Homewood Animal Control also says someone in Mountain Brook saw a dog dumped out of a vehicle that looked like that same white van.

Kyle Heslop says it's sad that someone would treat an unwanted animal that way.

"I think there's better ways really to deal with that problem. Take them to a shelter or something not just drop them off on side of street. I don't think just dropping them off in the middle of the street gives them not much of a chance," he said.

We called animal control but were unable to reach anyone for comment. They urge residents to keep an eye out for the van and report additional information or the tag number to police.

Below is the original Facebook post:

PUBLIC ALERT----Multiple dogs are being dumped here in Homewood. There are quite a few adoptable dogs being turned in that are found on Homewood streets. Chihuahua, boxer, maybe the Bichon found today and a rat terrier with a small puppy. There has been a white van described as

"White van, no windows" like a work van with 2 ladders on it. It has been seen in neighborhoods driving around when dogs were dumped AND someone in Mt. Brook saw a dog dumped out of a van that looked the same.

PLEASE KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN for this type of vehicle. Get a TAG NUMBER and get this info to me so I can share with my superiors. You can email this info to me at Robbie.bagby@homewoodal.org so I can pass it on to the powers that be. A secondary email is homewoodanimalcontrol@yahoo.com

It is not necessary to call the police department unless you personally witness this activity happen in your presence. This type of activity has been going on all around the Birmingham area lately. We need to put a stop to it ASAP. We depend on your eyes. Thank you.
