DECATUR, AL (WAFF) - Several stolen tailgates were recovered in Decatur on July 11.

On July 3 and July 4, the Decatur Police Department responded to several calls in reference to individuals having their tailgates stolen from their trucks. At the time of the reports, the Decatur Police Department did not have any information as to who stole the tailgates or where they were being taken.

On July 11, investigators followed up on a lead and met with the Lawrence County Sheriff's Office at a scrap yard in Lawrence County. Several stolen tailgates were recovered from the business.

Numerous tailgates have been linked back to their rightful owners and returned. There are still several tailgates that have not been linked to a police report.

Sergeant Clem requested that anybody in the surrounding area that has had a tailgate stolen within the last month to call him at 256-341-4639 to see if their tailgate is one of the ones that has been recovered.

The investigation is still underway at this time.
