LAUDERDALE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

All eyes in the Shoals were on the Sheriff's race in Lauderdale County. After the June primaries, no candidate secured enough votes, thus sending the top two into a runoff.

The Democratic ticket started with six hopefuls. Tuesday night, there were two remaining: Randal Haddock and Augie Hendershot were the last men standing.

Haddock is a veteran deputy for Lauderdale County, and Hendershot is a long-time police chief in Lexington.

Hendershot won the race Tuesday night with more than 300 votes separating him from opponent Haddock. Cheers could clearly be heard as family and supporters rallied around him Tuesday. Hendershot gave a thumbs-up when the last numbers were posted.

He will face Republican contender Rick Singleton in the November general election.
