Huntsville prepares for municipal elections

HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

The deadline to qualify for upcoming municipal elections in Huntsville passed at 5 p.m. Tuesday afternoon. 15 names are on the ballot for six different races.

According to city officials, one candidate beat the deadline with minutes to spare.

Here are the races as they stand now:

City Council, District 2: Incumbent Mark Russell runs unopposed.

City Council, District 3: Walt Hennessee and Jennie Robinson run for the seat vacated by John Olshefski. Rosemary Schexnayder was added to this race with her qualification Tuesday.

City Council, District 4: Bill Kling runs against Jackie Reed.

Nine people have qualified for the three Huntsville City School Board races, including five vying for the District 3 post. Current school board president David Blair is not running for re-election in District 2.

The Huntsville municipal elections will be held August 26, with runoffs set for October 7.
