Tuesday is FEMA disaster assistance deadline

Posted: Updated:
HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Tuesday is the deadline to register for assistance from FEMA if you were affected by the spring storms of April 28 through May 5 in Alabama.

The original deadline was July 1, but Governor Robert Bentley requested that the deadline be extended because of the widespread and devastating nature of the damage.

The straight-line winds, tornadoes, and flooding impacted thousands of people in nine counties, including Limestone and DeKalb. There are several ways to apply for assistance:

  • You can go online to Disasterassistance.gov
  • Visit m.fema.gov from a smart phone
  • Dial 800-621-3362 or (TTY) 800-462-7585
  • For those who use 711 Relay or Video Relay Services, call 900-621-3362
The phone lines are open from 7 a.m. until 10 p.m.
