HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

It's mosquito season. That means the swatting and itching has begun for all of us. Health experts in Madison County that are tasked with keeping the bugs at bay have some new technology and equipment to help them.

Vector Control Supervisor for Madison County Cheryl Clay hears her share of complaints.

"They're just like, ‘Hey I can't go outside without getting attacked by mosquitoes,’ so, we will go to their home and take a look around," said Clay.

If you have a problem with mosquitoes in your yard or neighborhood, Clay and her team will help you look for the trouble spots in your area and share tips for a solution - one more permanent then fogging.

The mist kills mosquitoes in their tracks, but not the eggs that are ready to hatch. Clay says foggers have made three full sweeps through Huntsville this year. Each truck has GPS tracking devices that allow her to know exactly where they have been, how fast they have been going, and where they've fogged.

A new website gives residents access to similar information. You can type in your address and see when trucks have driven by and when they'll likely come back through.

"A lot of people think they haven't heard the fogging truck come through, but our equipment is not as loud as it used to be,” said Clay. “So it doesn't wake you up at 11 o'clock at night."

Vector Control is operating with four new foggers and two new trucks. It is an update that won’t solve the problem, but will certainly help.

"The goal is to keep them at a level to prevent any massive mosquito borne illness outbreak," said Clay.
