WASHINGTON, DC (CNN) – A plan to curb the flood of unaccompanied minors at the border was unveiled on Monday by two lawmakers from Texas.

Republican Senator John Cornyn and Democratic Representative Henry Cuellar say it aims to immediately deport most young migrants.

The bipartisan compromise would then allow for an appeals process for those who may be able to stay.

It would have to be approved by both the House of Representatives and the Senate.

The countdown is on as Congress is just three weeks away from its summer recess.
