Cameras are popping up everywhere. Recently we told you how police in Athens have been putting new body cameras into action. The cameras can record up to 10 hours of video and audio. They are the same type Madison Co. deputies will soon be wearing. Let's face it, the camera doesn't lie and the cameras can keep both officers and the people they may be confronting in check. The cameras have resulted in fewer complaints against officers since the body cameras went into service. If a questionable situation comes up involving proper conduct of an officer, the camera footage is uploaded, where it can be reviewed by a supervisor. It may be a little too much like "Big Brother" from some, but the cameras have easily paid for themselves in other communities by reducing the number of complaints, lawsuits and court dates.
