FAA: Small plane accident in Ga. woods

Posted: Updated:

ATLANTA (AP) - An amateur-built experimental biplane with two people aboard was destroyed by fire after crashing in a wooded area of western Georgia on Sunday, a Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman said.

FAA spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen said she had no immediate report on the fate of those aboard the Steen Skybolt following the accident near Carrollton, Georgia, southwest of Atlanta. The identities of the occupants were not immediately released and Bergen said the information she had was only preliminary late Sunday.

A dispatcher with the Carroll County Sheriff's Department said local law enforcement officials were at the crash site Sunday night and she had no further details about the accident or those aboard.
