HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

According to the Centers for Disease Control, about ten people die every day from unintentional drowning.

“If you see someone drowning, you can see it in their eyes. It’s pure terror,” said lifeguard Dylan Dunlap.

Drowning begins when someone begins inhaling water into their lungs. To prevent drowning, be careful of who is in and around your pool at all times.

“Well if you are not confident in the way they swim, definitely watch them at all times because they can drown pretty fast,” said Dunlap.

However, there are some clear cut signs of someone in the process of drowning.

“Struggling, flailing arms in the water, coughing, like they’ve got water in their lungs,” said lifeguard Carter Williams.

If you think someone is drowning, Dunlap and Williams said get them out of the water, start CPR, and call 911.
