MARSHALL COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

Taxpayers in Marshall County may have a problem recovering any money from their former revenue commissioner, who is at the heart of a politcal corruption scandal.

An attorney for Joey Masters said his client has filed for bankruptcy in federal court.

A taxpayer filed suit against Masters, claiming he defrauded taxpayers of nearly $20-million by giving property tax breaks to friends and political allies.

Masters' attorney said this would stay any judgement against him, but plaintiffs said he still has a security bond as a public official.
