Henry County inmate Charles Turner is one of four people charged with capital murder kidnapping in the death of Darren Minniefield. A trial date is set for next month.

FORT RUCKER, Ala. (AP) - Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel is scheduled to visit Fort Rucker in southeast Alabama today. Hagel is expected to talk to soldiers at the Army base about the installation's role in the nation's defense.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Today is the last day to request an absentee ballot for Alabama's runoff election on Tuesday. Alabama's chief election official, Secretary of State Jim Bennett, says many registered voters will be away on summer vacation next week, and they can request absentee ballots before leaving town.

MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - The son of a prominent Alabama judge is being held in jail on charges that he killed his girlfriend at their home in Prichard. Twenty-two-year-old Richardson Johnson Kennedy is charged with murder in the death of 21-year-old Tylandria Rivers. He is the son of former Mobile County Circuit Court Judge Cain James Kennedy, who died in 2005.
