COPY-Former deputy sues Madison Co., Sheriff's Office

A former Madison County deputy is suing his old employer, claiming he has not been paid workman's compensation after being shot in the line of duty.Deputy Brent Beavers was shot during a traffic stop in November 2011. The bullet hit the deputy in the face.The Madison County Sheriff's Department and the Madison County Commission are named in the lawsuit. In the suit, Beavers said he sustained multiple injuries to his body from a gunshot wound; to areas of his head, jaw, face and throat.As a result, he also claims his injuries have caused post-traumatic stress, anxiety and depression.The lawsuit (PDF) says the Sheriff's Department has failed to pay all of his disability benefits and necessary and reasonable medical expenses.Joseph Shriver shot Beavers during a traffic stop after he robbed a convenience store. Shriver went on to shoot a Fayetteville officer in the shoulder a few hours later.Shriver pleaded guilty to two counts of attempted murder in Lincoln County, Tennessee and pleaded guilty to charges of vandalism. Shriver will serve 18 years in prison. No court records show a case filed against Shriver to face charges in Madison County.Beavers left the department in March 2013.Copyright 2014 WAFF.
