HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - A Huntsville woman is begging police to find who attacked her at a public library.

The victim claims she was trying to return a book at the branch on Sparkman Drive when a man beat her to the ground and tried to rape her.

Her frustrations and anguish now extend to the Huntsville Police Department. The 52-year old victim claims investigators have not followed up on her case and filed it incorrectly.

The June 29 incident is still fresh in the victim's mind because she is still suffering from a broken leg from the attack. She claims she went to the drop off box to turn in a book at the library branch when she was approached by a man around 10:30 p.m. The victim said the man hit her leg several times from behind with an object before she fell to the ground.

After a struggle, the man ran away but returned as she was calling 911 and kicked her in the head.

The building is located between the Police Academy and Spirit of the Cross Church.

Police and HEMSI responded to the scene and transported her to Huntsville Hospital. She said the responding officer wrote an incorrect report of the incident, filing it as a case of harassment and indecent exposure.

The victim said this is assault and an attempted rape, and her calls to speak with an investigator have not been returned.

Huntsville police told us an investigator has been assigned to the case, and the report was filed based on what was discussed at the scene, but changes can be made.

If you saw anything suspicious in the area, contact Huntsville police.
