FLORENCE, AL (WAFF) -  Earth, water and music – that is the focus of the first ever Wildwood Creek Festival in Florence.

Organizers are inviting floaters, rafters and land-walkers to the first event of its kind.

Local artists will have their work on display and several bands are set to play into the night. Raft races were planned following repairs to the dam, but because they were unable to hold the race formally this year, the Wildwood Creek Festival was devised as an alternative.

Organizers are going for a “Woodstock-on-the-creek” type of feel to take in the beauty of Wildwood Creek.

“I grew up on the creek, four houses up and spent summers in the creek every available moment,” said organizer Robin Wade. “Hopefully down the road we’ll be able to raise a little money and do a little philanthropy.”

The Wildwood Creek Festival is one of many events planned during the 33rd-Annual W.C. Handy Festival, which kicks off July 18 – 27.
