HILLSBORO, AL (WAFF) - Volunteer firefighters responded to a house fire at 2:30 a.m. Tuesday morning in Hillsboro.

When firefighters arrived to the fire on Lawrence County Rd. 372, the home was in flames.

One man lives there and said he woke up to his smoke detector. He was in his bedroom and tried to get out. He said when he touched his doorknob it was hot, so he climbed out of a window.

The man was not hurt.

He got a neighbor to call 911.

Volunteer firefighters from Lawrence County and Hillsboro had to shuttle water from a nearby hydrant.

There was a total loss of the home, but the man does have insurance.

The cause has not yet been determined.
