BESSEMER, AL (WBRC) -

Two residents of Flint Hill Pointe have been injured from a collapsed staircase in Bessemer Sunday morning.

This evening, a female resident remained in St. Vincent's Hospital in Birmingham after the staircase outside of her apartment collapsed on her around 1:00 am.

Her upstairs neighbor, Derrick Dowling, heard her cry for help and immediately responded.

Dowling talked with FOX6 News and said he then fell onto a pile a rubble and concrete after unknowingly walking on the collapsed  staircase.

At this time the woman's injuries are unknown, Dowling said.

He was released from care this morning after receiving injuries to his back and legs.

Bessemer Fire Officials can not allow Dowling to enter his home at this time because it is unsafe, says Dowling.

Property managers have not returned calls made by FOX 6 New at this time.
