MADISON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

Windy conditions were an obstacle for Madison County fire crews as they fought a wheat field fire Sunday.

It happened around 1:15 p.m. at a field near Elkwood Section Road. Bobo, Hazel Green and Toney fire crews fought the flames.

Approximately five acres were burned. Crews stayed on the scene for about 90 minutes putting out hot spots.

No injuries were reported. A cause has not been determined.

Fire officials said if you come across a field fire such as this, your first move needs to be to a phone.

"The best thing to do is call 911," said Bobo volunteer firefighter Danny Houk. "If possible, let them know how many acres are burning, if it's a wheat field. Any kind of fire, automatically call 911."
