To either keep or fire Carol Wicks as Director of Animal Services will be a decision made by the city council. If it comes to that, it would be put on a Decatur City Council meeting agenda for further review. So far, it is not on the agenda for their next meeting on Sep 2. If the issue comes before the city council, that's when we hope to find out why Mayor Kyle decided to put Wicks on paid administrative leave. He will not comment on it, saying he cannot talk about a pending personnel issue. CORDOVA, TN -

(WMC) - Shelby County deputies and firefighters rescued a toddler from inside a locked Nissan Altima Saturday afternoon.

With temperatures at 86 degrees and hardly any clouds in the sky, the toddler's parents left her inside a locked car with all the windows rolled up and the engine turned off.

Firefighters broke a window and removed the 15-month-old girl from the hot car. She was taken to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital in stable condition.

Deputies found the child's parents, 25-year-old Brittany Zanetti and 28-year-old Matthew Brown, shopping inside Kroger on N. Houston Levee Road.

Both parents told deputies they knowingly left the child in the car. They were taken into custody, charged with child abuse and neglect, and held on $10,000 bonds.

Police documents say the child will be released into her grandmother's care when she leaves the hospital.

Deputies urge all residents to make sure no child is left unattended in a vehicle. If you see a child alone in a car, call 911 immediately.
