GEISMAR, LA (WAFB) -

Dozens of people gathered for a vigil Thursday to remember the loss of two children.

The group got together at a home in Geismar in memory of Sarai Lanus, 9, and her brother Daylon, 6. The two were killed in a crash off Bluff Road in Baton Rouge on June 24. The family was fishing off a nearby embankment when an SUV ran off the road and hit the two kids.

Kiera Owens, the victims’ neighbor, said a piece of her is now missing.

“It's not the same; it's really different,” said Owens. “I know that I am going to come home from school and look and see where is Daylon and I am going to realize he is not there anymore.”

Jeffrey Darbill, the children’s uncle, said he is struggling with the reality, but believes there will be light that will shine from this terrible accident.

“We lost some great people in our family, a great niece and nephew, but everything is going to be good because God does everything for a reason,” Darbill explained.

Troopers with Louisiana State Police are still investigating what led to the crash. No charges have been filed against the driver.
