PENDER COUNTY, NC (WECT) -

Lighting struck a home in Pender County Thursday evening, causing a fire that burned the structure to the ground.

According to Pender County Emergency Management Director Tom Collins, the fire started before 5 p.m. Thursday at a home on Sherman's Corner near Atkinson. That was right as Hurricane Arthur started making its way past the Cape Fear region.

Residents inside the home got out safely.  A dog was injured in the fire, but is expected to be okay.
