HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - The Huntsville Police officer injured in a shooting filed a lawsuit against the shooter's estate Thursday.

Investigators said officer Jason Moore responded to a call about a fight on Stanford Drive April 4. According to Huntsville police, William Arthur Stogner shot Moore in the face when Moore arrived on the scene. Stogner then reportedly barricaded himself inside his home and shot at officers several more times.

A SWAT team responded and returned fire, killing Stogner. The standoff prompted the evacuation of nearby homes.

In the hours after the shooting, doctors operated on Moore, removing shotgun pellets from his face.

Moore states in his suit against Stogner's estate that because Stogner shot him, Moore received injuries to his face, head, eye and torso. He claims he has racked up medical bills related to his treatment, suffers from permanent physical scarring, lost time from work, and continues to suffer pain and mental anguish.

The officer requested a jury hear his case. A trial date has not been set, and the executor of Stogner's estate has yet to respond.
