DeKalb County authorities confirmed Thursday that at least one more 911 call was placed from the same house at the center of a shooting investigation hours before the incident took place.

Police confirmed Wednesday’s incident is at least the third time in the last few months someone has contacted 911 about the shooter and the victim getting into a fight. Authorities said homeowner LaWayne Bell shot several rounds through his front door as Monte Gant tried to break into his Powell home. Bell was questioned overnight but was not charged.

Gant is reportedly recovering from his injuries at Huntsville Hospital. Harris said the victim was in critical condition Wednesday night. Hospital officials said they didn't have an update, and could not confirm or deny having a patient by that name.

DeKalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris said Gant’s wife stayed with Bell recently. It is unclear if she was at the home on Thursday. The sheriff said they also learned Bell received a heads-up about Gant coming over to the house minutes before the shooting.

“Mr. Bell had received a text on his way over there and they were going to get it on when they got there,” Harris said.

Jon Lepore lives across the street from the shooting scene. He said one of the shots Bell fired barely missed his wife. He said his children were inside at the time, and he’s counting his blessings they were not hit.

Lepore said he and his neighbors have had enough.

“We’re already talking to a lawyer because that’s not right,” Lepore said. “You don’t come out shooting and put citizens in your neighborhood in danger, shooting straight towards their house.”’

Authorities said they are still investigating the shooting. Investigators are digging through phone records to determine all contact between the two men. The sheriff said they're still trying to determine if this is a self-defense case or a domestic violence case.

"We'll have to sit down with the District Attorney. Talking to him last night, he wanted all of the reports. He will make the determination if we bound it over to the grand jury," said Harris.

Gant vehemently denies he was breaking into Bell's home and said he simply knocked on the door when he was fired upon. Gant said he spent two weeks in the hospital and is on the way to recovery from his wounds.
