NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A man is being treated for smoke inhalation after being pulled from a burning building in East Nashville.

The call for the fire on Gallatin Avenue went out shortly before 3 p.m. Thursday.

Firefighters said the upstairs door to the room the man was in was locked and they had to force their way in.

"They removed that person, he was a handicapped individual. He will be displaced, won't be able to stay there tonight," said Assistant Fire Chief Walter Demonbreun.

Officials said the fire was in the wall and was making its way to the attic.

There is no word on the cause of the blaze.
