Judge sentences man to 40 years on child porn charges

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

A man who pleaded guilty to child porn charges has been sentenced to four decades in prison.

US District Judge Shelly Dick sentenced Clinton Smith, 43, of Prairieville, to 40 years behind bars on Thursday after he pleaded guilty in February to distribution and receipt of child pornography. He was also ordered to serve 10 years of supervised release once he gets out. He will also be required to register as a sex offender and he will have restrictions related to computers, the internet and minors.

According to court documents, Smith distributed 49 pictures and 15 videos of child porn, while he received 80 images, between Nov. 25, 2012 and Feb. 20, 2013.

“The United States Attorney’s Office has always prioritized its efforts in this critical area of crimes against children,” US Attorney Walt Green said in written release. “We will continue to work closely with the FBI, and all federal, state, and local law enforcement, to protect the children in this district as part of this important national initiative. This sentence should serve as a deterrent to those who mean harm to our children.”

Green added evidence of Smith’s prior history of sexually abusing children and his role in producing the images were considered by the court during the sentencing phase of the trial.
