POWELL, AL (WAFF) - DeKalb County investigators are on the scene of a shooting.

It happened around 6 p.m. on Wigley Avenue in Powell.

Investigators said the victim, Monte Gant, came to the home of Lawayne Bell. Sheriff Jimmy Harris said it is their understanding Bell and his wife had been the subject of multiple domestic disputes, and that Gant had been helping Bell's wife during that time.

Gant was shot as many as three times, according to the sheriff.

Authorities said Gant made his way to a Burger King in Rainsville before receiving help, though it is unclear whether he drove himself there or if he had assistance. The distance between the two points is estimated to be just over five miles.

The victim was airlifted to a hospital. His condition is unknown.

Sheriff Harris said Bell is being questioned as a person of interest in the case. He has not been arrested at this time.
