Two people were found dead inside a home on Longview Street early Wednesday afternoon. Investigators believe one person possibly shot the other before turning the gun on themselves.

A UPS driver went to the home and found a note on the door that prompted him to call police. Investigators said it appeared to be a suicide note.

Officers arrived on the scene at 1 p.m. They found a middle-aged man and his elderly mother dead in a bed. They had both been shot.

Investigators said they think the son was very sick. Athens Police Chief Floyd Johnson said they are investigating the case as a possible murder-suicide.

"It's a quiet street," said a neighbor. "You hear something like that going on, it kind of concerns you."

Johnson said the bodies were sent to forensics as the investigation continues. Their identities haven't been released, pending family notification.
